They consider that Officers appointed in future should be compelled, as a condition of appointment, to contribute to the Fund in the prescribed ramer, and that oxisting Officers should be informed that unless they contribute forthwith, as soon as the necessary law is passed, no gratuities or allowances will be paid to their widows in any circumstances, On present information, My Lords assume that no special arrangements are required for officers with salaries not exceeding Two-hundred and Forty Dollars, as they should not be placed in a position superior to that of Hong Kong employees of similar status, whose widows appear to be entitled to no benefits. For the same and other reasons They are unable to accept the alternative proposal of the local Postmaster General for gratuities and widow's bonus in the case of the staff
